Bayswater district MP Heidi Victoria has expressed anger at Andrews Government plans to reorganise fire services, saying it shows total distain for volunteers at The Basin, Bayswater, Boronia and surrounding stations, and puts local lives and property at risk.

“Our CFA volunteers do wonderful work. They deserve more respect than this uncertainty provided by the Andrews Government,” Ms Victoria said.

Andrews Government changes mean MFB stations become Fire Rescue Victoria. Integrated stations like Boronia will have full time Fire Rescue Victoria status but CFA volunteer units, under separate management, can co-locate with them.

A new Fire District Review Panel will be established to determine future service boundaries. Ms Victoria said the Panel added to the uncertainty.

“The Panel looks like a body designed to do Daniel Andrews and James Merlino’s dirty work. Labor wants volunteers replaced by paid union staff. I’ll bet CFA stations are the first the panel reviews.

Ms Victoria said the Andrews Government’s war on the CFA had reduced volunteers by 4,200 which put local lives and property at risk.

“The Government is bullying and offending volunteers, and they are leaving. They deserve respect and certainty. We want more volunteers in times of need, not less.
