Name the plate for our state
10/19/2011 12:31:45 PM

Heidi Victoria is encouraging the local community to help find a new slogan for our number plates.

Bayswater MP Heidi Victoria today urged members of the local community to join the debate on new plates for the state.

On Sunday Premier Ted Baillieu announced Victorian number plates would carry a road safety message, which will be selected after extensive consultation.

Mrs Victoria urged the local community to join the discussion and put forward ideas for road safety messages that would help reduce the road toll.

“Far too often are we hearing of serious injuries and fatalities on our roads. A new message of safety on our number plates will give drivers a further reminder of just how lethal a motor vehicle can be.

“The Coalition Government has already invested in a new turning arrow at Coleman Road in Wantirna and planning is underway for the duplication of the northern section of Stud Road.

“These projects, among others, are aimed directly at improving safety on our roads.” Mrs Victoria said.

Victorians can submit their ideas from midday Monday 17 October at

www.premier.vic.gov.au

The new number plates are expected to roll out in Victoria next year.

COALITION MAKES LOCAL INTERSECTION SAFER
7/18/2011 7:35:25 PM

The Baillieu Coalition has delivered on its pre-election promise to make a Wantirna intersection safer.

Bayswater MP Heidi Victoria has hailed the upgrade of the intersection at Coleman Rd and Stud Rd as a win for safety.

Vicroads has installed a right-turn arrow to allow motorists to turn into Stud Rd without running the risk to colliding with oncoming traffic.

"Prior to this upgrade, drivers had to edge their way into the intersection to get a clear view of traffic coming in the opposite direction. This made for a perilous situation and resulted in a number of crashes.

"A dedicated right-turn phase in the signal sequence also provides more certainty at the crossing for pedestrians." Mrs Victoria said.

Mrs Victoria hosted a public consultation session with Vicroads last February to discuss options for the intersection and said the final outcome is the best fit for all concerned.

"Safety was the number one priority of this project but we also had to be mindful of the impact a turning arrow would have on the traffic flow along Stud Rd.

"Vicroads has done an excellent job finding a solution to suit the needs of all users of this intersection

"This wasn’t a massive project in terms of cost but it was important to local residents and traders. I committed to making this intersection safer when I was elected in 2006 and I am delighted with this outcome.

"I look forward to seeing other projects on the governments agenda delivered during this term of government." Mrs Victoria said.

PREMIER'S SPIRIT OF ANZAC PRIZE 2011/12
7/18/2011 7:33:24 PM

The Premier’s Spirit of ANZAC competition is on again. The 2011/12 prize will give students in Years 9 and 10 the opportunity to take part in a study tour of to sites of military and cultural significance to Australian servicemen and women.

The prize is intended to inspire young people to explore the ethos displayed by the ANZACs and reflect on how those values apply in Victorian communities today.

Bayswater MP, Heidi Victoria, says the prize would be an invaluable experience for any young Australian. “It’s a great chance for students to delve into the details of one of the defining periods in our history. I encourage all Year 9 and 10 students to get involved.”

Entry forms are available online at
